As per the Civil Aviation Requirements (CAR) every institute must have heavy category Aircraft or Helicopter with engine running and primary instruments in functional and operational condition.

Keeping in view of CAR, a purchased agreement was signed with a U.S. based organization for the purchase of heavy category Helicopter MI:2 on 12th March 2009. This helicopter fitted with twin turbo shaft engine & opearational Instrument and Radio systems finally arrived at the institution base in the months of September 2009.

The basic objective of the organization is implementation of all round training among the students for enabling them to take the daring and responsible task of certifying the fitness of the aircraft.

The students active participation during the assembly of MI:2 helicopter at Indian Institute of Aeronautical Science campus under the keen observation of the group of senior engineers whose acumen in this flying machine are exemplary, provided the live experience to the students.
